Baristas at Commonplace Coffee are asked to provide exceptional customer service and craft coffee with skill and care. Our goal is to create memorable coffee experiences for our guests and provide a welcoming space in our community-focused cafes.Commonplace Northland will operate inside of Northland Public Library, located in Pittsburghs North Hills neighborhood of McCandless. Open since 1968, Northland Public Library is the second largest library in Allegheny County. The cafe will be located just inside the brand new front entrance, which is set to open in early September. We are looking for baristas interested in being part of this unique cafe space. They will work closely with the wonderful staff at Northland Public Library. We will be hiring for multiple barista positions to be part of the opening team.Essential FunctionsGreet all customers and visitors with a friendly smile.Provide friendly, efficient, and personal service to each guest and visitor.Create a rapport with customers by learning their names and favorite drinks.Educate guests on all of our products and services.Maintain high quality and consistent product standards.Strive for the highest level of customer satisfaction.Accurately process transactions in the POS system.Taste coffee regularly to maintain familiarity with product and quality standards.Dial-in espresso equipment in accordance with quality standards and directives.Stay informed of new coffee availability and attributes - from batch to retail offerings.Provide coffee and product feedback to managers and the Commonplace Coffee roasting team.Batch and restock items as necessary to keep the shop functioning optimally.Arrive on time executing effective shifts that set fellow employees up for success.Maintain a clean and welcoming shop for all guests and fellow employees.Communicate with team members and management to solve problems, create new opportunities, and improve service.Support a positive work environment.Perform other duties as assigned by shop manager and supervisors.Work with Northland Public Library staff to ensure that their guests are provided hospitality first service and highly executed Commonplace products and services.QualificationsStrength in interacting with and caring for people and community.Demonstration of passion and enthusiasm for coffee.Customer service that is executed in a personal and professional manner.Understanding of coffee shops and specialty retail.Desire to educate others about coffee and espresso methods.Strong attention to detail and respect for cleanliness and sanitation.Enthusiasm for the task of ensuring that each customer and visitor has a quality experience in our shops.High integrity and personal responsibility.Openness to criticism and constantly striving to improve.Ability to multi-task with ease and problem solve under challenging conditions.Alignment with Commonplace Coffee mission, vision, and values.Physical DemandsStand and walk - must be able to stand for 4-8 hour shifts and move about the shop.Perform repetitive tasks - must be able to complete repetitive motions with the hands, wrists and forearms to operate espresso machinery.Taste and smell must be able to detect and perceive the smells of coffee.Oral communication must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with customers and team members.Carry weight, lift must be able to lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.Work environmentWork is performed at the coffee shop.The work environment can be noisy.This job involves high amounts of customer interaction.Supervisory responsibilitiesNone90 Day goalsSatisfactory completion of onsite Commonplace Coffee orientation.Effective demonstration of the ability to work without supervision and with other team members.Effective demonstration of the ability to complete required tasks in a timely manner.Effective demonstration of the ability to communicate with management team.Additional BenefitsBarista shifts are tip eligiblePaid Time OffMedical, Dental and Vision Plans with 50% employer coverage401(k) Retirement Savings ProgramGym Membership SubsidyParental LeaveCompany Discounts
